Inside Loher Stone Fort, Ring of Kerry
Ireland

Loher stone fort is a reconstruction of a defended farmstead, originally dating from the 9th century. Probably belonging to a local chieftain, its two-metre high circular drystone wall would have provided protection to its occupants and the houses and farm buildings inside.

Ireland is thought to have had as many as 50,000 such ring forts, built during the early middle ages to protect people and livestock from raiders.
