The lake and its environment is well documented with this sign board, the walk is rough but level and the view is, like so many places on the west coast of South Island, impressive.

The walk itself from the road illustrates the fragile nature of the land, sand banks along the stream offer a tenuous hold for plants which a flood could take away in an instant.
