Medicine Lake
Montagnes Rocheuses - Alberta

Medicine Lake is located southeast of Jasper in Jasper National Park, Alberta.  It is an interesting feature in that it serves as a bathtub during spring to early summer while during late summer the lake completely drains through an underground river system.  During winter the underground river freezes & the lake begins its formation during snowmelt.  The lake often sees different fluctuations in water levels throughout the year.  Tall uplifted limestone cliffs, characteristic of the Canadian Rockies, dominate the landscape.  A forest fire a month earlier (July 2015) closed the Maligne Lake Road, you can see the burn areas which were fairly expansive around the northwest end of the lake.
