Napoleon bridge in Podbela
Slovenia

The stone bridge got its name because Napoleon’s troops have crossed it in 1797 when they were marching from Venice to Kärnten. The bridge itself it much older and dates into roman times. The bridge was built on the old roman road connection Pradol to Logje, Robidišče and the Nadiža. The old builders were cunning and knew that the bridge should be built far from the river. That is why they built it over a small gorge. The Napoleons bridge is an important architectural monument and a link to the past.
