Ruins of the Chapter House, Wenlock Priory, Shropshire
England

The extensive ruins of Wenlock Priory are located close to the medieval town of Much Wenlock in Shropshire. Built on the site of an earlier 7th century Anglo-Saxon monastery, the present ruins are what remains of a Norman priory first built for Cluniac monks in the 1180s, with construction work continuing for another three centuries.

Some of the Cluniac's penchant for elaborate decoration survives in the Chapter House, as does a lavabo, or communal washing station for the monks. Part of the infirmary hall and prior’s lodging were converted into a private residence after the Dissolution of the Monasteries and remain so today, while the rest of the site is run by English Heritage.
