Постоянное население села 720 чел.(2007). Центр сельского поселения Юхновского района. ФАП, СДК, библиотека, школа.

В селе по заказу Веры Васильевны Лопухиной (урожденной Шереметевой) в 1760-ых годах был построен огромный пятикупольный храм Рождества в стиле елизаветинского барокко. Колокольня храма более поздняя: она была построена в 1812 г. В интерьере храма ничего не сохранилось кроме росписи на стене Успение Богоматери.Рядом с церковью недалеко от алтарной апсиды установлено очень интересное надгробие в виде ствола дерева супругов Иваниных.
