Sommerhausen is located on the right bank of the Main a few kilometers south of Würzburg. In the east and south Sommerhausen is enclosed by Ochsenfurt, bordered to the north by Eibelstadt municipality. Sommerhausen is surrounded by a well-preserved defensive wall. At the end of the town near the castle, the main street leads through a gate towards Ochsenfurt. A bell-shaped hood crowns the gate.
