The ruins of Balvaird Castle, Perthshire
Scotland

Balvaird Castle stands on an isolated hilltop overlooking Glen Farg. The substantial four-storey L-Plan tower house dates from the late 14th century. The site has the remains of a formal walled garden and footings of several outbuildings.

It is associated with the Barclay and Murray families, who left for grander accommodation in 1658. It was subsequently occupied by farm workers until the mid-19th century.
