Annual trip to Tokyo, August 2012. Yasuragi-no-oka Memorial Hall at Tokyo Cemetery in Hachioji.
I wandered into this cemetery on the way back to Takao Station after a visit to the Hachioji Castle Ruins and Hachioji Shrine. The cemetery is located back-to-back against another cemetery (Hachioji Cemetery). Initially this confused me as to which is which.
The pointy roof of this memorial hall was noticeable from distance, and so out of curiosity I decided to check it out. Here the departed souls who for whatever reason may not have anyone to attend to them, are cared for instead by the cemetery's own caretakers.

Tama area is the name of the western part of Tokyo Metropolis. It consists of 26 cities, 3 towns and a village. A lot of people (about 4 milion) live in a eastern half part of the area. However, there are many mountains in the western part of Tama area, and there are very little flat land. Many hiking spots are in the western area, so you can enjoy walking on the trail, camping, and so on. If you see the beautiful mountain scene, you may not believe this is also in Tokyo.
