A series of cascades and waterfalls stretches for over 1.5 km forms part of the river system that drains into Tulija river running south of Palenque. A trail alongside it takes one from the mostly tacky touristic setting to the more traditional indigenous Chiapan villages further upstream. The strong undercurrent has claimed its victims before, mostly intrepid swimmer who ventured too near to some of main waterfalls here. This place reminds me very much of the Krka waterfalls in Croatia - though on a much smaller scale. A sudden tropical downpour sent me running for cover but it fizzled out as soon as I reached the main viewing area.
