This pano was taken on an archaeological site in Southern Utah. The large pits in the ground are prehistoric houses-- they were excavated out partially, then built up. Inside would have been amenities such as storage pits, ventilation shafts, and fire hearths. If you look carefully you can spot some of these features as well.
