The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, located just west of Tucson, Arizona, is a world-renowned zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden, all in one place. At 2840 feet above sea level, the Museum offers a typical desert environment with summer temperatures averaging 87 days each year where the temperature is 100° F or higher, but with extras that are anything but typical. The Museum has interpretive displays of living animals and plants native to the Sonoran Desert -- an arid desert region in the southern parts of Arizona and California in the United States and the northern parts of the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California. On a typical spring day the Desert Museum welcomes 2,500 visitors and 200 school children. Annual visitation has been around 460,000. The Museum is open every day of the year.
