Just 3.5 kilometers from Oviedo you can find this Atlantic forest of more than 30 hectares. It has the peculiarity that was born of the industrial activity of the old explosives factory of La Manjoya that was established in the second half of the 19th Century. Beech and other species were planted in a natural forest of chestnut and oak trees to limit potential blast damage from the dynamite produced there. Today this forest is also trying to limit the wave of the Spanish housing bubble explosion. Among the trees you can see what was supposed to be an ambitious urban project of 3,500 luxury homes with a lake and pier, as an alternative to the beach... The lake finally was a pool. The major construction company went bankrupt and the project now belongs to a bank that will only build 405 homes, the rest will have to wait for better times…
