The Batavia Wharf at Lelystad in the Netherlands
Netherlands

In this panorama from the Dutch photographer Hans Molenkamp one has an unlimited view on both the Batavia and the (under construction) Zeven Provinciën. Both ships are replicas from the times that the Netherlands played an important role in the colonies. The VOC explored the world in the East Indian and these ships were used as transport ships to bring all the exclusive goods to Europe. The ships were heavely armed because piracy in these days was very normal amongst sea going nations. The wharf is primarely manned by a enthousiast team of volunteers and runs on contributions from sponsors.
