This medieval atrium is attached to Basilica of St Maria Maggiore in Bergamo Alta, the Upper Town. Almost completely decorated with frescoes dating back to 13th and 14th centuries, the atrium gives access to the Curia Vescovile, the Bishop's Palace. The bronze statue in the 360 Photo represents Pope John XXIII, known also as Papa Buono, "Good Pope John", who was born in Sotto il Monte, a small town not far from Bergamo.
