A view of Lake Berryessa west of Winters, California, standing at the exact location of a murder committed by the Zodiac Killer on September 27, 1969. That day, Bryan Hartnell & Cecilia Shepard were both picnicking under a few trees when a man approached them in disguised attire, pointing a gun at them as he ordered Cecilia to bind & tie up Hartnell w/ plastic clothesline as the man did the same to her. Then afterwards he repeatedly stabbed both of them w/ a knife before heading back up to their car, inscribing a Zodiac symbol w/ dates on the victim's vehicle before calling the police department in Napa to report his involvement in the stabbings. Hartnell survived but Cecilia later died from her wounds. As known now, the Zodiac was a serial killer from the late 1960s & 1970s known for committing several murders in the Bay Area while sending ciphers & taunting letters to the San Francisco Chronicle. His identity remains unknown to this day despite many possible suspects & he may perhaps be responsible for several other unsolved murders during other years. Today the site still remains relatively remote & calm after 48 years, but only the tree stumps remain now from what was formerly the picnic site of the couple.
