big Island - parish santana
Santana parish is a peninsula on the border of the north face to the northwest side of the Big Island, with 4 beaches. Town Beach, Whale Beach, grumixama Beach and South Beach parish. The aerial view reveals the peculiar beauty of this region. It was here in the Parish of Santana who started the settlement of the Big Island. In the seventeenth century was the economic development center of Ilha Grande, agricultural region with great coffee plantations, vegetables and cereals, and sugar mills and rum. Likewise the Palmas Cove, Santana's Town was inhabited in the past and very little currently inhabited, with only 50 residents. Today is a prominent tourist spot, not only to the Big Island, but also for the city of Angra dos Reis, from where depart boat rides and boat. What remained of the greatness and prosperity of this town it is now reduced to secular Church of Santana, built in 1843, which is the most important religious monument of the Big Island and has resisted bravely to the times, an abandoned cemetery and the ruins of several houses, slave quarters channels and underground water. Because it is a private property, your visitation is restricted to sandy beach, the surroundings of the church and the trails of the region. Despite this, the ride is worth it, not only by the beauty of the church, but by the tranquility of the place. source: "http://www.ilhagrande.com.br/praias/freguesia-de-santana/"
