This group of three buffalos is not that easy to spot. Two are standing on a little dirt patch some 200 yards down the canyon and one is barely visible under the tree. In the silent film era a herd of bison was shipped over to the island for the filming of one of Zane Grey's Westerns. The Island Nature Conservancy keeps the herd to a maximum of 150. Whenever the herd grows to big, the surplus gets shipped over to Wyoming.
