Breached Bossington Beach
England

The shingle ridge at Bossington Beach after heavy rain had increased the river flow to such an extent that the river punched a hole straight through the shingle.

Normally the ridge is pretty uniform throughout it's length - the river percolates through the ridge to reach the sea, and you can walk the 1000m or so from the access track to Hurlstone Point. Not today!

I'm not sure how regularly this happens, or how quickly the tide will reinstate the shingle. I suspect that once the river flow has diminished, one good strong tide will put things back to normal. The flow was still pretty fierce when this panorama was shot.
