心源禪師於一九三O年（昭和五年）發起創建北投中和寺及靈光塔，位於投奇岩路所經之福壽山半山腰上，入口巨石林立，頗為別緻。日據時代為曹洞宗名剎，佛光塔寫著：『曹洞宗聯絡佛教靈光塔蓮座...昭和六年六月立』。

中和寺及靈光塔為一坐北朝南沿襲自中國地區住屋座向之小型佛寺。入寺之石階步道均依多座巨石縫隙中蜿蜒而上。其建材及建築風格融合日式、中國式及本土式，產生其獨特又造型豐富的各種形制。
