Capela pré-romanica de Balsemão, Portugal
Portugal
The chapel of St. Peter of Balsemão is a monument so important scientifically as problematic is its chronology and original way. In the last hundred years, history is divided into two opposing chronological proposals: the Visigoth period (VI-VII centuries) and the expansion of the Asturian kingdom (centuries IX-X). So far we can not confirm any of these suggestions and therefore Balsemão continues to integrate the controversy that has separate researchers since there is roughly a decade and a half, the Asturian and Mozarabic cycles have been a radical revaluation. In the place where the temple is implanted, or very close, seems to have been a Roman uilla, as attested by some inscriptions, one augustalis Claudio terminus of time and the Aras reused as altars. The be confirmed, some day, the relationship of this uilla with the temple, we will have another example of the continuing occupation that already features a considerable number of sites in the country.
