Castle Of Good Hope, Cape Town, .South Africa - Main Courtyard

The Castle of Good Hope was built by the Dutch East Indies Company between 1666 - 1679.  The fort is one of the best preserved examples of a Dutch East Indies Company fort and was restored and declared a historical monument in the 1980.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_of_Good_Hope)

This is the main (outer) courtyard, and the first thing you see on entrying the castle.  You can see the soldiers marching in for the opening ceremoney which includes the firing of a small, but loud, signal canon.  Directly across the court yard from the main entrence you can see the museum which includes exibits of art and other artifacts from the castle's history.
