Cehennem Sinkhole, 25 km to the east of Silifke District, was formed by the same natural forces with Cennet Sinkhole, which is located just 75 meters away. The sinkhole is 50 m to 75 m wide and 128 m deep. According to mythology, after defeating the dragon Typhon, who had one hundred snakeheads emitting fire, Zeus initially imprisoned him here before trapping him permanently under the Mount Etna in Italy.
