水街：
龙川溪水两岸民宅鳞次栉比，是典型的徽州古村落枕山面水的格局，胡氏族人因以两岸河堤为街，故俗稱其为水街。两岸河堤各有一个非同小可的名字---龙堤、凤街！“龙堤”衍生于河东的龙山，对面的“凤街”脉接西面的凤凰山而得名。在结构上，龙堤中间纵铺石板代表“龙脊”，两侧鹅卵石垒铺，代表“龙鳞”。对面的凤街用白凤凰麻石横铺，代表凤凰的一片一片羽毛，两街道合称“龙凤呈祥”。水街还有一层奥妙，虽然水街两堤呈逐步递降之势，但是龙堤总是高于凤街，这体现了封建社会男尊女卑的伦理观念。从夫妇纲常说，龙为乾，代表男子，凤为坤，代表女子。男具阳刚之气，故龙堤在河之阳，女子阴柔和婉，故凤街在河之阴，过去称男女完婚为“乾坤已定”，又认为“夫为妻纲”，“阴阳顺、夫妻和、家道成”，龙堤设置比凤街高，正体现了“阴阳顺”的宗旨。
