Christ Church from a Right Front Pew
Philadelphia

Over 310 years old, Christ Church was the first Church of England church in Philadelphia, and later the first American Episcopal church.  The signers of the Declaration of Independence met here, and a dozen of them are buried under the floor or in the graveyard two blocks up Arch Street.  The baptismal font, about 300 years older still, comes from William Penn's home parish in England.  However this is not a museum, but a functioning Episcopal Church that welcomes worshippers as well as thousands of tourists a year.  As I took this picture several members of the congragation were decorating the room with Spring flowers.
