Heiligenblut is situated in the high-Alpine region of the Hohe Tauern, at the foot of the Großglockner - the highest mountain in Austria - and it is the starting point of the picturesque Grossglockner High Alpine Road. The garden of the church serves as a cemetery. Next to the exit there is a memorial place for those who died in the mountains: an enormous steel book with their names.
