Church of S.Francisco, Chapel of Brandoes, Porto
Portugal

Mortuary Chapel of the Brandões Pereira Family .The altarpiece of Reis Magos is from the 17th century. The small apse or chapel of the Três Reis Magos, the right side was the property of the Pereira Brandão family. In a small chapel, opened by a Renaissance door in the Flemish style, two tombs are seen, one above the other. The lower one at ground level has a Gothic inscription and the upper one is the grave of Fernão Brandão. At the top of the grave the words "D. Servatori" can be seen engraved and on the other side is an unreadable Latin epitaph. Fernão Brandão and his brother, Diogo Brandão, bookkeepers at the Treasury of Porto, were poets and their verses are found in the "Cancioneiro Geral" (a collection of the first Portuguese songs, rhymes and poetry) by Garcia de Rezende. At the entrance is another small seputlura dated 1501, which has the following inscription: "Here lies João Brandão, a nobleman from the royal house and accountant of His Majesty, in this city, who died in the year MDI". The coat of arms has the crescents of the Pinto family and the Brandão family. Of the inscriptions on the three graves on the pavement, one is indecipherable, the remaining two being one of Diogo Brandão chaplain to Princess Joan of Austria, daughter of Emperor Carlos and mother of the king. D. Sebastião, 1574, his wife and son, "Here lies Beatriz Pereira wife of João Brandão and his son Diogo Brandão MDXXV".
