Cremation Tower, Ubud

The community of Ubud in central Bali, Indonesia, was preparing for a very special event: the cremation ceremony for the mother of the royal family, who died in June 2011.

This huge ramp, completely made from bamboo was made to construct the cremation tower that you can see in the background. The tower is almost 30 meters high when it is finished and contains a life-size bull to carry the sarcophagus. The complete tower will then be carried by 1000 men to the cremation site and set aflame. The whole community was busy to prepare decorations for this big event which took place on August 6, 2011.
