Dahu Tomato Factory
Taiwan
The Dahu Tomato Factory was established during the Japanese colonial era. It was a joint venture of both Taiwanese and Japanese businesses to export tomato produce. In the 1950s, it was transformed into a pineapple factory which soon closed. Over the decades, the neglected factory building remains. Standing beside the ruins is a tall thriving flame tree that has become a major tourist attraction. In summer, fiery red flowers of the tree spread all over the floor, forming a contrasting image with the ruined walls. In winter, the bald tree with the ruins give a sense of lost and loneliness that draws countless visitors.
