Deepdale Stone, Stenness, Orkney
Scotland

The deepdale stone is a neolithic standing stone set on its own alongside the Stenness Loch. The reason for this stone being erected has been lost in the mists of time but the leading theory is that it was a marker so that from some other vantage point the setting sun against it would let the people know when some important marker in the calendar had been reached.
