Devín Castle , Slovakia
Devin
The castle area occupies almost the entire part of the castle rampart above the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers. The architecture of the remains of its buildings forms an integral backdrop of a massive hill dominating the surrounding area. After passing through the main northern gate, the visitor finds himself in the vast area of the lower castle. The more significant objects in this part are the foundations of the early Christian chapel, discovered by archaeological research in 1975, the foundations of a building from a settlement dating from the 11th-13th centuries and the so-called guardhouse from the second half of the 15th century. Between the lower and middle castles, the visitor can see the foundations and model of the Great Moravian church from the second half of the 9th century and the apse with the so-called trefoil plan as well as the remains of an early Gothic chapel from the 11th-13th centuries, built on a circular plan.
