Dobrovats Monastery / Mănăstirea Dobrovăţ. Dobrovăţ, Romania
Mănăstirea Dobrovăţ / Dobrovats Monastery. Built in 1504 by Stefan cel Mare to honor his victory over the Turks in this valley. One of many churches he built to honor his wins. A national hero, he was a cousin of another national hero, Vlad Dracul. Here you can see the original church and new one. A statue of Stefan cel Mare. The residence for the monks. The original tower, and my lovely assistant. Stefan died before completion of the monastery and one of his sons finished it. This monastery is listed on the National Register of Historic Monuments. As the code IS-II-aA-04150. The Church of the "Descent of the Holy Ghost" - dating from 1503-1504, with the code IS-II-mA-04150.01 The church "Sf. Gheorghe" dates back to 1607, having the code IS-II-mA-04150.02 The bell tower - dating from 1743, with the code IS-II-mA-04150.03 The enclosure wall - having the code IS-II-mA-04150.04
