Eddy Gulch fire lookout
California

Built in 1958 at a cost of $19,422, the Eddy Gulch fire lookout sits on a high ridge overlooking much of the Klamath Mountains near the Forks of Salmon, California.  The views extend from distant Black Marble Mountain to the north, the Salmon Mountains including the Russian Wilderness, Etna Summit, & a sweeping view of the Trinity Alps & Limestone Ridge to the south, though they are behind the trees in this view.

The original lookout at this site was a cabin constructed on June 15, 1912 & was operated by Hallie Daggett who became the first woman in the country appointed to manning a fire lookout, which she did from 1913 to 1928.  Her cabin where she lived is now on public display at the city park in the nearby town of Etna.
