The Schoenenberg is one of the most important places of pilgrimage in the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. The pilgrimage was founded in 1638 by the Jesuit order in the distress of the Thirty Years' War. Then followed the construction of several small chapels before the Ellwanger Prince Provost Johann Christoph Adelmann of Adelmannsfelden built the large pilgrimage church in 1682.
