Exeter Quayside is steeped in history - hence its use by the BBC as a film location for the Onedin Line - though now its trade is dominated by restaurants and leisure.
A lovely way to see the quay and the canal heading south is to hire either bikes or canoes from Saddles and Paddles (http://www.saddlepaddle.co.uk/) and head off for an afternoon. Otherwise, stay around the quay and enjoy good food and drink, and a range of independent antique and craft shops set into the arches on the quay.
