Convict Lake sits at the end of an old moraine east of Mammoth Lakes, California. It takes its name from convicts who escaped from a prison in Carson City, Nevada & camped out in this area on September 23, 1871, to which they killed merchant Robert Morrison (which nearby Mt. Morrison is named after). The mountain has a lovely backdrop of the Sevehah Cliffs on Laurel Mountain. Besides having a resort, the lake is also a popular fishing location.
