In the dry desert of Arizona the Salt River is normally dry at most locations in the Salt River Valley because of the huge reservoirs up stream. Occasionally, when there is enough rain fall the river runs and damages all of the river crossings. To minimize the damage, the State build bridges that most of the time cross the dry river bed.
