Goat Lake is located at the northern end of the Sawtooth National Wilderness. It is about a 4 mile hike from the nearest trailhead at Iron Creek Campground and the hike has a total elevation climb of 1500 feet, notably about 600 feet of it the last half mile. The trail is well worn, other than the last quarter of a mile where it breaks into a scramble in the rocks. The lake sits at an elevation of about 8,234 feet and is snow covered most of the year. This image was taken September 15, 2011 from the southwestern shore. Access to the lake in summer conditions is typically from August to October.
