View from the summit of Goosenest (elev. 8,280') east of Big Springs, California. The mountain is a broad shield volcano w/ a pyroclastic cone at the top w/ the last eruption during the Pleistocene era. It contains a small shallow crater giving the peak its name. From here one can get views of Mount Shasta & Mount Eddy to the south, the Shasta Valley & distant Klamath Mountains to the west, Willow Creek Mountain w/ a glimpse of Mount McLoughlin to the north, & the Butte Valley & intermediate hills to the east. From the ground view however views are somewhat obscured by the whitebark pines.
