Bristlecone Pine Grove, Great Basin National Park, Nevada, USA
Nevada

Bristlecone pines grow in several locations throughout Great Basin National Park.  Hikers on the way to Wheeler Peak pass through a grove on their climb.  Those taking a break from long strenuous peak hikes can visit the more reasonable 3 mile Bristlecone Grove trail that starts from the upper scenic drive parking lot.  The park service has placed signs providing information about the trees and giving ages for some.  Several are over 3000 years old.

The towering cliffs around the cirque of Wheeler glacier provide an impressive backdrop to the ancient pines.
