The main altarpiece was commissioned by Bishop D.Cristovão de Castro in 1550-1552, attributed to João de Ruão. It is composed of 110 figures of Renaissance sculpture. The succession of the Apostles on the first level, the representations of the Annunciation, the Nativity, and the Adoration of the Three Kings, the Presentation in the Temple, the Way to Calvary, and the going down from the Cross.
