This square was a yard outside the city walls, next to the main door of the village, and was where the cattle fair was made. Today is considered the heart of the city, and suffered a minimalist remodeling in 2012, when Guimarães was the European Capital of Culture. This view was taken in 2010 before the remodeling. The house on the nascent side with the homogeneous appearance, was raised by private initiative, and values the square. On the west side we have the church of S.Pedro from the XVIII century, and together with an old manor house known as the house of the Toural's Nidalgo, today occupied by a bank. He belonged once the captain of Vila do Count Jeronimo Vaz Vieira de Melo Alvim, and continued in the possession of the family for more generations and the center of political events during the French invasions.
