Massacre Ranch is located east of Vya, Nevada & allows public camping & lodging on a first come first serve basis. It is about as remote a location as one can get, which would make for amazing night sky gazing. Along the ground one can find countless Apache tears, which is essentially weathered obsidian. This location is along the old Applegate Trail & one can see a rock feature in the background known as Bruff's Singular Rock. About 1/2 to 3/4 mile northeast of the ranch is an alignment of stones shaped by a stone mason, one of them small indicating perhaps one person buried & the other about 8x14 feet, perhaps a mass grave, though the deceased names are not known. The name Massacre is also the name of a couple other nearby geographic features & is attributed to a supposed massacre of emigrants from Indians though there is not any authentic written record of the event.
