From a nice hike from Alpnachstad up to the Pilatus. The Pilatus cog railway transports a lot of tourists up to the Pilatus. It is the steepest rack railway in the world, with a maximum gradient of 48%.

From here (Mattalp) one needs about half an hour to hike to the top station of the Pilatus cogwheel railway.
