blennerville windmill
Ireland

Blennerville Windmill is a tower mill located in Blennerville, County Kerry.  It was built by Sir Rowland Blennerhassett in 1800 but by 1846 had fallen into ruins. In 1981 Tralee  Urban Council purchased the windmill and has developed it as a visitor attraction. Blennerville Windmill is a living reminder of Ireland's rich cultural and industrial heritage. A replica of the Jeanie Johnston Famine Ship was construced at a site adjacent to the windmill and the project was completed in 2003.  The orignal ship was built in 1847 in Quebec but was later purchased by a Tralee Merchant Nicholas Donovan.  It was used to import timber but during the famine the ship carried passengers on the return journeys from Tralee to North America. A  2km section of the Tralee to Dingle Steam Railway was restored  and brings visitors from Tralee town to Blenerville. Dine at the award winning Station House Bar and Grill adjacent to the railway before your return trip.
