Fire lookout tower at Jacob Lake on the Kaibab Plateau
Arizona
This 80-foot tall steel fire lookout tower was built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Lookouts spent days and nights in the small cabin at the top, scanning for smoke then using a radio to phone in the compass bearing so the fire could be located by triangulation.
