Kilimanjaro Umbwe Route 3640m
Tanzania

High on Umbwe Route on Kilimanjaro's southern slopes, elevation approx. 3640m. The summit at the horizon is Mount Meru, 4565m high and 65km away.

Umbwe route follows a steep ridge and offers solitude, spectacular views (too sad 360cities doesn't support partial panoramas here...) and a very special vegetation with the transition from rain forest to cloud forest and finally alpine desert.
Climbing Umbwe Route only makes sense for climbers that acquired a good altitude acclimatization before starting the climb, because altitude is gained too quickly to acclimatize. That is why only 0.2% of all climbers take this route.
