This rocky beach is on the Texas side of the Rio Grande in Big Bend National Park. Across the river is land of the nation of Mexico. Here, boaters who are making a river float of Santa Elena Canyon, will often camp after a long day of slow and leisurely floating on the river after launching at Lajitas, TX.
Above the rocky beach is a small plain of flat soil and low brush with "at large" tent areas to protect alittle from the wind.
After camping here for the night boaters will find the entrance to Santa Elena Canyon just a couple hundred yards downstream from here where the canyon cuts into the uplifted mountains. You can see where the water changes from flat and slow to a riffle. The riffle is called Entrance Rapid.
