KUNR | TRANSFERIUM | P19
Netherlands
Excavation in the Kunrader limestone facies of the Maastricht Formation near Voerendaal, with dm-m thick, north-sloping layers of fairly pure fine-grained sandy limestone (calcarenite), consisting of alternating, more or less hardened layers, with bioturbation, lamination, large-scale sigmoidal erosion surfaces and local enrichment with siliciclasts, coal, phosphate, glauconite and silica in the form of flint concretions and silicified fossils, including seagrasses and remains of terrestrial plants. Shallow excavation for the transferium car park (Aug-Sept 2020) with storage of lime and sieved and graded flints, next to the deeper excavation in the Kunrader quarry.
