−県指定 史跡−
黒岩横穴墓群は、大正14年に県指定の史跡となった横穴墓群である。古墳時代後期〜終末期に造られたと考えられるが詳細は不明である。吉見丘陵の北東部 に位置する八丁湖に隣接しており、その範囲は、百穴谷・首切り谷・地獄谷・神代谷などに分布していると言われる。この横穴墓群を「十六穴」と呼ぶこともあ るが、これは、明治10年に地元の有志によって16基の横穴墓が発見・掘削されたことに由来する。現在では、30数基の横穴の存在が確認されているが、こ の一体の斜面には多数の横穴墓が埋蔵しており、国指定史跡である吉見百穴よりも大規模で良好に保存されていると云われている。その総数は500基以上と推 定される。
